You may have some questions about what happens in an herbal consultation:
How is an herbal consultation different from a doctors appointment?
In this world where even the best doctors don’t have more than 10 minutes to spend with a person we can offer something very rare. Time and a listening ear. We do not diagnose, treat or claim to cure any disease, instead we look at patterns and seek to shift energy to allow your body to come to balance. We strive to take a detailed case history and dig into the origins of the current problems. We may take the pulse and observe the face and skin, we may also ask to see your tongue. We will discuss your medical history and any current medications but we will never recommend you stop taking any prescribed medications, that is between you and your physician.
How long will the initial consultation last?
Plan on a 60 minute session but it can take slightly less or more depending on how complex your case history is. Honesty is key in finding the correct herbal friends to use, be as honest as you can with the practitioner so we may arrive at a good solution.
How much will the herbs cost me? And can I only purchase them from you?
We do have a large amount of the most common remedies, home grown or wild crafted by us, and more coming this year when the garden is planted so if we have the herbs in stock they are included in the price of the consultation. If they are not something we currently have we can direct you to a place that you can order them from directly.
Are there any herbal books you would recommend to clients for a greater understanding of the gifts they offer?
Yes! Any book by Matthew Wood is an excellent place to start but in particular “The Big Book of Herbal Wisdom” is a treasure trove of amazing stories about our friends the herbs. I would also recommend Phyllis Light and her book “Southern Folk Medicine” for a slightly different approach but just as enrapturing. Rosemary Gladstar is an excellent resource as well. There are of course many, many others but these are a good start!
